Saat itu, ia sedang melakukan penelitian tentang pencairan gas. Untuk mencairkan gas pada suhu rendah, pertama-tama ia perlu merancang wadah yang dapat mengisolasi gas dari suhu luar. Jadi, ia meminta Berg, seorang teknisi kaca, untuk meniup wadah kaca berlapis ganda untuknya. Dinding bagian dalam dari dua lapisan dilapisi dengan merkuri, lalu udara di antara kedua lapisan dipompa keluar untuk membentuk ruang hampa. Kaca itu sendiri merupakan konduktor panas yang buruk. Kaca berlapis perak dapat memantulkan kembali panas yang terpancar dari dalam wadah. Sebaliknya, jika cairan dingin disimpan di dalam botol, botol tersebut dapat mencegah panas terpancar dari luar ke dalam botol.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/201902251034487737323.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Gabus botol termos biasanya terbuat dari gabus atau plastik, dan keduanya tidak mudah menghantarkan panas. Cangkang botol termos terbuat dari bambu yang dirajut, plastik, besi, aluminium, baja tahan karat, dan bahan lainnya.
