Sir James Doille, een Schot aan de Universiteit van Oxford, vond in 1893 de vacu\u00fcmisolatiebeker uit. Hij zette de ene fles in de andere en trok vervolgens de lucht uit de opening in het midden van de twee flessen. Omdat het vacu\u00fcm geen warmte doorgeeft, blijft het warme of koude water in de Thermosbeker lang op zijn oorspronkelijke temperatuur.<\/p>\n

In de jaren vijftig bereikte de verkoop van de Thermos Cup een hoogtepunt. Tijdens familiepicknicks, wandelingen aan zee en kamperen in de natuur werd de Thermos Cup veelvuldig gebruikt.<\/p>\n
